Harmanpreet's Blazing 91 Powers India Women to 92-Run Rout of Zimbabwe, Completing 3-0 Series Sweep

India Women produced a ruthless display of power-hitting at Raipur on October 20, crushing Zimbabwe Women by 92 runs in the third T20I to complete a commanding 3-0 sweep of the first-ever bilateral series between the two sides.

Former captain Harmanpreet Kaur was the star of a record-breaking night, smashing an unbeaten 91 off just 41 balls as India posted 216 for 7 — the joint-third highest total in women's T20I history — before bowling Zimbabwe out of the contest at 124 for 7.

The 92-run margin is India's biggest T20I victory by runs on home soil, underlining just how wide the gulf was between the two teams across the series. Zimbabwe, chasing a daunting target, never recovered from losing their opener to the first ball of the innings and slid to their 23rd consecutive defeat in women's T20Is.

With the series already won, captain Smriti Mandhana opted to bat first and chose to experiment. She held herself back from the opening slot, promoting Anushka Sharma to open the innings alongside Shafali Verma. The move worked. Anushka, handed a rare opportunity at the top of the order, made 28 off 20 balls, and the pair stitched together a 54-run opening stand off just 32 balls to give India a flying start.

That early momentum set the tone for everything that followed. Shafali Verma, continuing the rich vein of form that has defined this series, hammered 69 off 37 balls, striking six fours and five sixes in another exhibition of clean, aggressive batting. It was her second consecutive half-century, and by the time she departed, Zimbabwe's bowlers were already staring at a mountain of runs.

But the night belonged to Harmanpreet Kaur. The 37-year-old, India's most experienced campaigner, walked in and simply took the game away from Zimbabwe in the space of a few breathtaking overs. She reached her half-century off just 25 balls, and her innings of 91 not out contained five massive sixes. The standout passage came in the 14th over, when she launched a brutal assault on Kudzai Chigora, plundering 20 runs off the over with two fours and two sixes.

For Harmanpreet, the innings was as much about timing and confidence as it was about runs. She has struggled for form in recent times, finding the slow pitches of the Women's T20 Asia Cup hard going and getting only limited time at the crease during India's Asian Games campaign in Japan. Before this series, questions were being whispered about whether one of the greats of the women's game was fading.

Her response in Raipur was emphatic: she batted with freedom, cleared the boundary at will, and stayed unbeaten to the very end, exactly the kind of innings that has made her one of the most feared hitters in world cricket.

"Feels great that I got some time in the middle. Just wanted to enjoy myself and bat as long as possible," Harmanpreet said after the match, her satisfaction evident. It was the kind of statement innings that silences debate — not through words, but through sheer, undeniable weight of runs.

India's late-overs acceleration was astonishing. The home side smashed 62 runs in the final five overs, even while losing four wickets in the push for quick runs. The charge was relentless: boundaries flowed, sixes sailed into the stands, and Zimbabwe's attack simply had no answers. Among the visiting bowlers, Beloved Biza emerged with credit, taking 3 for 50 in the face of the onslaught — a commendable effort on a night when bowlers were little more than cannon fodder.

By the innings break, the numbers told their own story. India's 216 for 7 was their joint-third highest total in the format, and it included 11 sixes — a remarkable tally that spoke to the team's transformed batting identity. Only Niki Prasad's brief stay of 9 off 12 balls offered Zimbabwe any respite in an otherwise bruising innings.

Set 217 to win, Zimbabwe's chase was over before it had truly begun. Kelis Ndhlovu fell to the very first ball of the innings, falling for a duck and dragging the visitors' fragile confidence down with her. From there, India squeezed relentlessly, never allowing Zimbabwe's batters to find any rhythm.

The one bright light for the visitors was Sharne Mayers. The batter played a lone hand of real quality, making 60 and hitting four sixes — every single one of Zimbabwe's sixes in the innings came off her bat. She batted with courage and timing, offering the small Raipur crowd glimpses of what Zimbabwe are capable of on a better day.

But with wickets falling around her and the required rate climbing beyond reach almost from the start, her effort was always going to be in a losing cause.

India's bowling was disciplined and incisive. Nandani Sharma was the pick of the attack, returning 3 for 18 to seal the contest and ensure there would be no late drama. Zimbabwe eventually limped to 124 for 7, 92 runs short, as India wrapped up another comprehensive victory.

The records kept tumbling long after the last ball. The match produced a record 15 sixes in total, equalling the previous mark set during the South Africa versus India game at Potchefstroom in 2018. India's 11 sixes were a reflection of a side that has embraced aggressive, fearless batting — and the numbers for the year back it up. India have now hit 128 sixes in T20Is in the calendar year, miles ahead of the next-best South Africa with 78 in 2026.

For Zimbabwe, the defeat extended a miserable run to 23 consecutive losses in women's T20Is. The series was a historic one — the first bilateral engagement between India and Zimbabwe women — but it also exposed the gulf in class, depth and power-hitting ability between the established Asian giant and a side still finding its feet at the highest level.

Beloved Biza's 3 for 50 and Sharne Mayers' fighting half-century and 44 from Biza with the bat were the few positives the visitors could take home.

For India, though, this was a series that answered questions and raised hopes. The 3-0 sweep extended India's T20I winning streak to 11 matches, a run built on aggressive batting, sharp fielding and bowling depth. Mandhana's willingness to experiment — promoting Anushka Sharma to open, holding herself back — showed a captain thinking ahead and building squad depth rather than simply chasing easy wins.

And at the heart of it all was Harmanpreet Kaur. At 37, with doubters circling after a lean patch on slow Asian Cup pitches and limited opportunities in Japan, she produced an innings that reminded everyone why she remains one of the most destructive batters the women's game has ever seen. Her unbeaten 91 off 41 balls, Shafali Verma's 69 off 37, and the record 216 for 7 will be remembered as the defining statement of a series that India owned from the first ball to the last.

Brief scores: India Women 216 for 7 in 20 overs (Shafali Verma 69, Harmanpreet Kaur 91 not out) beat Zimbabwe Women 124 for 7 in 20 overs (Sharne Mayers 60, Beloved Biza 44; Nandani Sharma 3 for 18) by 92 runs.
